Overview
The Sperry Marine NAVIGAT X Mk 1 (SR-180 Mk 1) is a microprocessor-controlled gyrocompass system featuring integrated automatic north speed error correction. Approved by the German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), it complies with IMO resolutions A.424 (IX) and A.574 (14), DNV-W1, and ISO standard 8728. For high-speed craft, an optimized version meets IMO resolution A.821 (19) – HSC.
C. PLATH’s unique buoyancy-supported gyrosphere ensures heading stability even during short power interruptions. After a 3-minute power loss, deviation is limited to within 2°, and the unit quickly returns to the correct heading without the usual long settling time. The twin-rotor and liquid damping design virtually eliminate latitude error.
The high-speed follow-up system (>100°/sec) provides precise heading and rate-of-turn measurements under all conditions. Integrated TMC (magnetic compass transmission) and multiple input interfaces allow connection to a second gyrocompass, speed log, position receiver, and rudder angle feedback units.
