BRAND: YOKOGAWA / YDK
TYPE: CMZ-900, OUTERSPHERE, CONTAINER
Yokogawa CMZ-900 Gyrocompass Container
Overview
The CMZ-900 container unit is the outer housing (sometimes called the “outer sphere”) of the CMZ-900 gyrocompass system. It houses the gyrosphere assembly—critical for heading stability and accuracy. When the container is cracked or damaged the performance of the gyrocompass can degrade, so replacement is essential.
Key Features & Service Notes
-
Designed specifically for the CMZ-900 series: compatible with the Yokogawa YDK gyrocompass systems.
-
Structural integrity is critical: cracks or contact faults in the container can lead to unstable heading data—regular inspection is recommended.
-
Monitoring tip: The gyrosphere current should normally read about 220-230 mA; if it rises above ~270 mA (with upper limit ~300 mA) then the unit should be reviewed or replaced.
-
Maintenance: The gyrosphere lifespan is typically about 5 years; annual inspections are mandatory, including replacement of supporting fluid and gasket sets.
-
Spare parts: The container is part of the replacement kit ecosystem for the CMZ-900; spare gyrosphere (e.g., MKT007) and other components are available.
Why It Matters
As the external shell of the gyrocompass’s gyrosphere assembly, the container plays a pivotal role in ensuring mechanical stability, thermal balance and signal integrity. A compromised container can lead to heading drift, increased maintenance, and potential navigational risk.
